Wadia iTransport and  24/96 Content

Is there a way to download  24/96 Content to a MacBook Pro and then convert to Apple lossless and transfer to an iPod then play ipod through Wadia iTransport to an external Benchmark DAC and still have the higher resoution 24/96 output?

I have seen the Wadia transport for ipod nice piece of equipment I use to own a 850 Wadia CDP
so I know the quality that Wadia brings to the table and phenomenal build quality.
To answer your question try xACT - Audio Compression Toolkit this is made for mac platform

I have seen a few posts elsewhere that state the ipod cannot output audio files with 96k sampling rates.  This would not allow one to get down loaded higher res 24/96 encoded files into the ipod then output through the Wadia itransport.

You can download 24/96 recordings and import them into iTunes. It will play them and there seems to be no loss to me if you use the Apple Lossless compression. You could take the optical SPDIF out of your MacBook into you DAC, if your DAC can handle optical in and also if it can handle 24/96.

One problem might be, depending on your OS and version of iTunes, the output settings.  After connecting up you DAC and checking you can play some 24/96 music you can alter the output settings. For older versions of iTunes and Mac OS, close iTunes and find the Audio Midi application in the Utilities folder which is in Applications. Check out the Audio Output settings if they are 24/96 then leave. If not correct then change to 96000.0Hz and 2ch -24 bit. restart iTunes and play again - should be fine. It works fine for me on a few Macs and on my sons' MacBook.

I'm not sure the iPod can do this though, in any event you are taking the line out not the digital out when connected in a normal doc. e.g. Analogue not digital. Wadia do however make a dock which they claim can take the digital signal out of the iPod - might be worth checking for bit rates.

Hope this helps
